Barwon Heads...Sea air (& shopping) is good for the soul

It may seem as though I am on a pizza rampage at the moment (actually perhaps I am, more of that later!) Anyhoo, on the weekend mum (dynamo Nonna) and I headed off to Barwon Heads for a bit of girls only time, wandering through shops, relaxing and eating. It was so nice to step out of the daily grind, go for a drive and shake off some cobwebs.

I've had a lot of stress lately with major changes at work, our new house being at the final stages of the build and general life stuff so it was just what I needed. One of the things I love the most about G Town is being so close to the coast. It was high on our "pro" list when we moved here and I plan to take advantage of it! Barwon Heads is prob only 20 mins away from our place and as soon as I smell that sea air, I instantly feel better. The sea is good for the soul, I am convinced.

Here are a few of my favourite places in the main street (Hitchcock Ave).

We did indulge in some retail therapy. I bought this ring from Red Dog 3. It is made in Korea and had some weird bunny sticking out of it that I pulled off. How cute is it? Only $29! Bargain.
Then we were in this gorgeous store called Frith and Mum bought me this beautiful scarf. (Yes my mum still buys me stuff...I am V lucky!)

Me showing off my new ring and scarf!
Mum also bought a cute scarf and gloves from Beach Club and I bought my obligatory soap from Moss (I have a soap obsession...no outing is complete without a new one! I bought one called "french pear"). I also MUST mention Kiitos, Living by Design. Although I didn't buy anything there on Sunday, I plan to - their stuff is amazing, beautiful textiles, unusual (in a good way) homewares and funky lights/random stuff...def worth looking at. I was eyeing off some pendant lamps that could end up in our new kitchen. See below!

We finished up with lunch at Barwon Orange. I just LOVE the food here. We shared a pizza and it was amazing. Really fresh and yummo ingredients.

On our way back to the car, generous Nonna wanted to get some afternoon tea for Mr G who was home trying to watch the Hawks play football while also watching the girls, so we stopped in at Annie's Provedore and Produce Store.  I dare you to leave there without some gourmet morsel of one kind or another. Beautiful deli, zeally bay breads (divine), sweets, continental sauces, jams and the list goes on.

OMG nealy forgot the 2 punnets of strawberries for $10 from the back packer in the street who said they had been picked that morning in Mornington. They were so sweet. We believed him! Miss 3.8 ate nearly a whole punnet on her own.

Barwon Heads is about 20 mins out of Geelong. It has a relaxed pace and has a gorgeous river/beach which is great for small children. There's also a playground practically right on the waters edge. There are some great surf beaches nearby including 13th Beach as well as beautiful golf courses (so I am told, I am not a golfer!)

If you didn't already know, the town was chosen as the location for the ABC television series Sea Change from 1998 -2000. I have a dream about buying a block of land to one day build a holiday house on!! Inhale...exhale...beathe in that sea air!
